Me

I have had an interest in science and the way things work for as long as I can remember. I asked a lot of questions as a kid, and to this day I almost always have something that I am wondering or trying to figure out. Throughout high school, I started taking more science classes and found that I really enjoyed problem solving and doing research. I am particularly fascinated by the brain. The way that it works on a molecular level and how that influences behavior is so interesting. For my career, I want to combine that drive to help people, my interest in science, and problem solving to be a neurosurgeon.

I went to a Spanish Immersion elementary school. I got to experience having teachers and interns from other countries who provided their own lens to learning. The curriculum was interwoven with various cultures from many different Spanish-speaking countries. I gained the understanding that my experience living in the suburban US is not representative of everyone’s life experiences. My time in Spanish Immersion elementary school and throughout upper level Spanish classes has built my curiosity, empathy, and respect for other peoples’ lives and expertise.

I am forward to staying involved and building community in college in a swim club and choir. It’s important to me that the people around me feel safe and included. I look for ways to pull people into a group or a conversation if they are on the outside, I have been called a very inclusive person. I try to build very supportive communities in everything I do.
